I’m missing you today, like always when you’re not with me. I like to look at pictures of you playing, smiling, or exploring the world. Your big eyes show me the way you look at the world, the way I should.

This is a photo of you and your first make-up kit. You were so excited to try it out! It had eye shadow, lip gloss, and nail polish. You just couldn’t wait to go home and open up the heart shaped make-up box and get to work.

I’ve always dreamt that you would want to paint my nails. I would never wash them off. You’ve done it before with some help, but this time you did it all by yourself. You did such a good job! You did all ten fingers on my hands. I was proud of you because its not easy to paint something so small with a tiny brush!

You also gave me some lip gloss and eye shadow. You did a really great job. It makes me smile to see you focused the way you do… quiet, with intent and concentration. I know you’re a smart human being. I can’t wait for you to show the rest of the world what you are capable of.

But you will always be my sweet, little Maya. My precious diamond.

That night, we also did some paintings. I really love both of these. I love the one with the hands because I love seeing you grow. I feel like you are bigger every time I see you. I wish I could slow down time, but I don’t think about that and I just try to make as many memories and special moments as I can.

The other painting you did blew me away! Do you see what I do? This looks like a vase with flowers. Is that what you were trying to paint? I love seeing you learn how to clean the brush when changing colors and using the canvas to make something beautiful… leaving negative space to speak for itself.

I can’t wait to make more art with you! You are my favorite artist. You are my everything.
