I don’t know why, but I’ve always liked sad songs.

Sometimes, they can make you feel sad. And I know that being sad is hard… but its also beautiful, sometimes.

All emotions are special. Being sad is special, but… just a little different. But its okay.

And its nice to listen to something sad when you feel sad. It’s like getting a musical hug that says “I understand”. Do you think that, too? Maybe you don’t like sad music. And that’s okay! What kind of emotions do you like your music to make you feel?

But also remember…

Without being sad, we wouldn’t know what being happy was. And if we still did, we wouldn’t know how special being happy is. And how we should do, or say, sing, do the things that make us happy.

Being happy is when we smile. And not just with our mouths!

Being happy is smiling with your eyes (they get bright and warm!)
Smiling with your ears (they move and hug your head!)
Feeling good in your soul (it feels warm and big!)

Just like its okay, and maybe even good, to be…

Excited!
Inspired!
Grateful!
Proud!
Hopeful!
Peaceful!

And best of all…

Its good to feel love.

In your long and beautiful life, you will feel all of the emotions that a person can feel. Even though each emotion is special, don’t focus on the bad ones. Listen and hold onto the good ones. Embrace them, hold them dearly, and understand what they are.

The song above, “Song For A Blue Guitar” by Red House Painters, is a very sad song. Do you hear how sad the guitar sounds in the beginning? I was listening to it today and thinking of you, missing you.

Sometimes I like to use music to really make me feel. I wanted to feel sad and nothing more. To feel close to you. To feel how much my heart misses you. And I missed you deeply. It hurts my heart to be away from you.

And you know what that means?

That the next time I see you, my happiness and love will be stronger than ever.

Remember, always make time to be happy.
